John Obi Mikel – Midfielder donates N11M to Dream Team VI

Several complains have been made about the difficulties the team is facing due to lack of financial support from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

John Obi Mikel is currently with the Nigeria U-23 team head of the Olympic Games


According to reports, the team’s expenses in the United States camp were financed by an individual on a 10-day sponsorship deal.

Mikel Obi who will also be captain of the side has come to aid of his teammates by donating the sum of N11m ($30,000) according to several media reports which have not been confirmed by Pulse Sports.

“Mikel has donated $30,000 to the team. You know we have not received money since we left Nigeria,” a source in the Dream Team VI camp told African Football.

All efforts by Pulse Sports to verify this report have been unsuccessful as calls and messages to close associates of Mikel Obi have not been responded to.

This ‘donation’ comes after the coach of the side Samson Siasia revealed that he has not been paid for five months.

We are suffering in Atlanta. We have not received any money since we arrived this training camp. I have not been paid for the past five months,” Siasia said.

We will not hold the country to ransom by threatening not to play our matches, but the government has to come to our rescue.

“I know that by the time the Olympics will be over, our monies will not be paid.
